Fried courgette flowers
near Termini.

A courgette flower, a heart of mozzarella and an anchovy, battered and fried: the most Roman of starters. At La Lupa it opens the meal alongside supplì, a few minutes from Termini.

Rome’s most delicate fried dish.

In the Roman tradition a courgette (zucchini) flower is filled with mozzarella and an anchovy fillet, dipped in batter and fried. It comes out crisp outside and soft inside, the salty anchovy balancing the mozzarella. It is a pizzeria and trattoria starter, ordered for the table.

On La Lupa’s menu the fried courgette flowers come with mozzarella and anchovies. They are seasonal: if you want them on a specific day, ask the restaurant when you book.

Starters to share.

With the courgette flowers you will find the classic supplì with rice, ragù and mozzarella, and tomato bruschetta. A round of starters for the table and then a Roman pasta, such as gricia or cacio e pepe.
